Treasure Tuesday's Fabulous Thrift Find.
Was roaming through my local Goodwill, where I've always had great luck. I noticed there cute little cocktail glasses and almost passed them by because I have practically have enough glassware to open a bar. Luckily I decide to pick one up and immediately noticed the heaviness, which is usually an indication of quality crystal. I then noticed the tear shaped air bubble in the stem, which is indicative of Steuben Crystal. So I flipped the glass over and there it was... a beautifully etched Steuben signature. The set of 6 glasses were in perfect condition, no chips, no serious scratches. The asking price was $5.99 for the set, $1 each for glasses from one of the finest American glass companies.
The glasses are discontinued but available through eBay and replacement companies ranging from $50-$80 each. Even at the lowest price, a $6 purchase has a $300 value.
Next time you pass by a thrift store stop in and check out the glassware. Mixed in with the junk there just might be a treasure waiting to go home with you.
