Treasure Tuesday's Fabulous Thrift Shop Find
Today's fabulous find is also a fabulous flip. Wanted to show people how many items are out there just waiting to be bought, and then resold. Seriously... not buying an item of value, and more importantly that there is a market for, is like stepping over cash on the sidewalk.
Recently found these three Steuben wine glasses at a local Goodwill Store for .99 each. Didn't need, them, especially not a set of only 3. But I knew there must be buyers looking to replace broken glasses, or add to their set so I snatched them up. Figured I'd be able to get at least $50 for the set on ebay considering Steuben glasses start at about $100 each in retail shops.

All cleaned up and ready to photograph for ebay. I searched through the Steuben section of Replacements LTD to find out the pattern name. Be aware you be scrolling through dozens of photos and sketches to find the pattern. It's worth the time. When buyers are looking for glasses or china they'll be searching by the pattern name.
See etched signature in the center, Crystal is usually marked on the bottom, usually acid stamped, or etched. Either way it's often difficult to spot the signature.
The Final Sale Price
Much to my surprise the glasses ended up selling for $265. A $3 investment, and a little bit of time produced a $262 profit in 7 days. Moral of the story, if you wouldn't leave a $100 bill on the sidewalk, don't leave potential cash on the shelves at a thrift store. When in doubt look the item up on ebay, Charish.com, Etsy, etc. to see if there is a market for the item, and the approximate sale price you can anticipate, Why not make your thrifting hobby profitable.
