Treasure Tuesday's Fabulous Thrift Find

Today's Fabulous Find comes to you from my favorite neighborhood Goodwill.  It's a large store with high sales volume so they get several truck loads of items daily.  I've found many a treasure at this location.

One day I spotted this bowl stacked on a lower shelf of the glass section.  It had intense sparkle, almost like it was winking to get my attention.  It worked, once I removed the stack of random glass bowls stacked on top I could tell that it was something great.   The detail of the design, the clarity of the crystal, and once I picked it up the immense weight.  I flipped it over to see smack dab in the middle was the Baccarat acid stamped signature.

At the bargain price of $9.99 I could barely contain my excitement.  In fact I immediately took it to the cash register, paid, and locked it in my car.   And yes, I did return to the store and complete my search.

Tip:  Thrift shops usually get several items from each home, so there might be more high quality items that were put out at the same time.

Value wise the least expensive Baccarat bowl of similar size is $1,100 retail.  Since I can't find this design anywhere it leads me to believe it's either discontinued, or was a limited production with could make it a $10,000 piece.  More research coming.

The bowl has a 10" diameter
Highly detailed, even the bottom has a beautiful chrysanthemum design which is probably a nod to Imperial Seal of Japan.   The wave pattern around the bowl is also a Japanese motif which leads me to believe the bowl is 1930's since Japanese, Chinese, and Egyptian motifs were common design inspirations of Art Deco.

Baccarat, France Acid Etched Signature.  Almost always located in the center of the underside of all pieces.
