Treasure Tuesday's Fabulous Find & Project.
Saw this desk at a thrift shop and fell in love with its neo-classical lines. The only issue was the stained finish, which was not in good condition. The finish wasn't a problem for me since I planned on painting the desk anyway.
After removing the hardware, and sanding the finish to smooth out any bumps, I applied a few coats of flat gray paint, sanding between coats.
I sealed the desk with a flat lacquer. Once dry, I sanded it with very fine sandpaper. Then I applied a coat of clear furniture wax, and buffed to a soft satin shine.
My final touch was to use a silver Rub n' Buff wax on the drawer details. Wrap a cloth around your finger and apply gently following the product instructions.
Desk purchase price was $50
Paint and supplies were about another $35
Rub n' Buff silver details on drawer trim.
Pairing it with a Philippe Starck acrylic chair gives the desk a modern twist.
