Treasure Tuesday's Fabulous Thrift Shop Find
I found these Oak armchairs with Greek Key motif at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift shop in Los Angeles California. This is a large and grungy thrift shop so be prepared. It's not one of those well merchandised spotless boutiques. But with the dust, come excellent finds at great prices. I scored these chairs for $30 each.
Decided to reupholster the chairs in black Scalamandre ultra durable and expensive horsehair fabric that I bought from an upholsterer's "clean out the remnants" sale. The fabric sells for about $300 per yard, I paid $5. This fabric has been stored in a closet for about 10 years. I knew I'd find a use for it eventually.
Found the same chair on an on-line boutique for $1,125 per chair, covered in a much less expensive fabric.
Tip: Basic drop in seats like on these chairs aren't terribly expensive to reupholster. You can even do it yourself. See video.
